What if some of the best experiences in Texas aren’t the ones everyone already knows about?

I’m on a mission to find 100 experiences in and around Washington County that give you a reason to slow down, explore a backroad, meet a local, learn something new—or simply enjoy small-town life for a while.

And some of them are completely FREE.

Walk a nature trail. Step inside a tiny local museum. Discover a piece of Texas history. Explore a small town on foot. Find a place you’ve driven past a hundred times and finally stop to see what’s there.

This page is where I’m collecting the free experiences from my 100 Experiences Rural Texas Experiment—proof that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a memorable day in the country.
